View of mount Fuji from Kawaguchiko. This was taken in the morning, during winter time, when you have the best chance to get a clear view of Mt. Fuji. I have been unlucky in the past, having the entire mountain completely covered by the clouds, and impossible to see from this same point of view. However, when it is uncovered by the clouds and covered by the snow, Mt. Fuji is extremely beautiful.

Okama Crater near Mount Zao.

Lake Kawaguchiko on a cloudy day.

Photo taken near the Nanzen-ji Temple in Kyoto. Kyoto is full of beautiful temples and gardens.

Deer in Nara. Nara is famous for its large statue of Buddha, and the numerous deer wandering in the city.

A small river in Kyoto.

Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto. A long trail up a mountain, with many many torii gates along the way. A unique experience in Japan.

A photo taken in Hakone. It captures Japan's unique atmosphere of green, humid, mountainous landscapes, where you can find elements of traditional Buddhist architecture (here a tōrō - a stone lantern).

A trail in Nikko.

Hakone and its famous hot springs in the mountains.

Kusatsu, another famous onsen (hot springs) resort. Japan has a lot of really good onsen places.

The statue of liberty in Odaiba, Tokyo.

Yokohama by night.

Osaka by night. Osaka is particularly well-known for its delicious food, with famous dishes like okonomiyaki (a sort of salty pancake) or takoyaki (little balls of fried batter with octopus inside).

Drying squids in Atami.

Irozaki Cape, at the very south of the Izu peninsula.

Off the coast of Matsushima, near Sendai. The coastline in this area changed dramatically in 2011 due to the large tsunami.

Mountains in Takayama.

Outside of Hida cave near Takayama.

One of the houses in the historic village of Shirakawa-gō. It is a World Heritage site, known for the houses characterized by their roof, designed to withstand the heavy snow of winter.

Fresh snow in Yuzawa, a famous ski and snowboard resort, easily accessible from Tokyo.

View from the summit of Mount Takao, a good hiking place technically still within metropolitan Tokyo. The furthest mountain in the picture is Mount Fuji.

Itsukushima (Miyajima island), near Hiroshima. A very beautiful island, famous for its giant torii gate that sits in the water at high tide. There are also many beautiful trails.

The Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum nearby is a difficult experience, yet very important to go through to grasp the horror of nuclear weapons.

Hokokuji temple in Kamakura. Kamakura is a beautiful city not far from Tokyo, famous for its Buddha statue, but also has nice temples, good trails and beaches.

Kenroku-en, a beautiful garden in Kanazawa.
